MILK PROCUREMENT AND INPUTS:

MILK PROCUREMENT TEAMS:
The team identifies the milk potential areas, organise milk co-operatives, form viable milk collection routes, enlighten the milk producers to use cattle feed, raise fodder in their land and educate them economic functions of milk cooperatives.  There are 9 Mobile Veterinary routes operated in  this union,  by which 40-50 Societies per route being covered under Health Cover.  The following Health coverage schemes are extended to the animals in the societies.

4. AI & Pregnancy verification
5. Insurance Coverage
6. Immunization of animals against contagious diseases.
7. Cattle Feed Supply
8. Fodder Development
9. Training.

Service Charges : Rs.25/- per case. Average cases 200 / Month.

Through 576 Nos.of Functional societies the union is procuring 1,10,000 litres of  milk every day. By operating 21 Milk collection routes the Milk produced by the primaries are transported to the Madurai Main Dairy and Theni Chilling Centre.  

ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION ACTIVITIES :
The A.I. Centre was started in this Union in 1975. Initially the A.I. Net work was started with the Liquid Semen. Bulls were maintained at the A.I. Centre and the liquid semen is distributed through   messengers  to  the nearby Districts and Village Dairy Co-operatives. During 1985 the Frozen Semen was introduced after which the semen straws was purchased regularly  from Nucleus Jersy Stud Farm,  Ooty. Many village level workers were trained extensively on artificial insemination to carry out A.I. activities at the villages level. Under OF II programme LN2 Plant was installed (PLN 106) to produce 100 Lts.of liquid Nitrogen per day for preservation & easy transportation of Semen straws to do AI at VDC Societies by trained VLWs.

FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE CONTROL PROJECT

 In order to save the cattle from the   Foot and Mouth disease, prophylative vaccination is being carried  out  by  this  Union. Rs.5/- is being collected per vaccination from the dairy farmer.

CALF REARING SCHEME:

The Heifer Calf Rearing Scheme is  implemented since 1977. The Calves were included under the Financial Assistance of Govt. of India and Govt. of Tamil Nadu during the period from 1988 to 1992. From 1992-93 the Calf Rearing Scheme was abolished. As such the Union Board has resolved to implement the Scheme from Union Surplus Funds at  a  total Cost of Rupees 4- lakhs 2000 calves under the calf rearing scheme for the year 1993-94
